Originally called Hopkins, Huffkins are a traditional bread roll, served to the hop pickers after a hard day’s harvest.   A single hop was stuffed into the dimple on the top, by way of decoration.  The rolls are sweeter and lighter than ordinary bread, and were used as an accompaniment for a variety of Kentish dishes – from soup, to main courses, to puddings.
